Pakistan on Sunday summoned top Indian diplomat - for the fifth time in a week - and lodged with him a strong protest over the unprovoked ceasefire violations by Indian troops on the Line of Control (LoC) that resulted in martyrdom of two civilians.
According to a Foreign Office statement, Director General South Asia and SAARC Dr Mohammad Faisal summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner J.P. Singh and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces along the LoC and Working Boundary.
The latest violation by Indian occupation forces occurred on January 20 and 21, when 18 Indian posts resorted to unprovoked firing with mortars and heavy weapons in the Nikial sector at the LoC, it said.
Resultantly, two innocent civilians Dil Muhammad, 33, and Nafeesa, 25, embraced martyrdom while three others including Sahiba, 26, Noor, 6, and Naseema, 38, have been injured and evacuated to the District Headquarters Hospital, Kotli.
"The deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is indeed deplorable and against the human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws," the Foreign Office said, adding that the repeated ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation.
The Director General urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement and investigate the repeated incidents of ceasefire violations. He also urged that the Indian side should permit UNMOGIP to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
On Saturday, the Foreign Office said that the Indian forces have carried out more than 150 ceasefire violations along the LoC and the Working Boundary in just 20 days of 2018, resulting in martyrdom of nine innocent civilians, while injuring 40 others.
