Karachi Bar Association (KBA) has strongly condemned 'extra judicial murder' of 27-year old Naqeebullah Mehsood by suspended SSP Malir by Rao Anwar led team and demanded formation of the judicial commission led by Supreme Court judge to probe into police encounters held from 1991 to date.
In its emergent meeting presided over KBA President Syed Haider Imam Rizvi here, the lawyers body was of the view that extra judicial killings were very common in Sindh particularly in Gadap Town, adding that the encounter led by Rao Anwar had created great unrest among the general public and the civil society.
It demanded of the authorities concerned to dismiss Rao Anwar and all other police officers who were involved in encounters on the name of self defence. Besides, the lawyers demanded that criminal proceedings should also be initiated against such officers.
"The barbaric acts of terrorism in the name of encounters are some of the glaring examples of encroachment of fundamental rights to life and liberty as enshrined in the constitution. These illegal and unlawful acts carried out by the police department have not only created serious unrest and apprehensions in the mind of common man but also raised finger over justice system," the press release read.
The KBA also hailed the apex court for taking suo motu notice of Naqeebullah's killing, expecting that the action would also be taken by the federal and provincial governments in same quick manner. The association reminded that same sort of extra judicial killing incidents occurred in interior Sindh had gone un-noticed, terming it the violation of due process of law.
