Prices of essential food commodities have remained unchanged in retail market during the preceding week as compared to last week, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder, here on Sunday. No significant increase or decrease of prices of essential items in local market in provincial capital Peshawar was noticed during the survey. However, the vendors and shopkeepers continued to demand different rates of food items despite displaying price list at their outlets.
It was witnessed that one-kilogram tomato were available at Rs 30, while one-kilogram onion was priced at Rs 40. Ginger was being sold at Rs 120 per kg while garlic was available at Rs 160 per kilogram in retail market. Green chili was available at Rs 120 and Rs 140 per kilogram. Other veggies were also being sold at reasonable prices in retail market.
According to survey, red-colour potato was being sold at Rs 40 per kg as compared to Rs 60 per kg last week. Peas were available at Rs 40 per kg against the rate of Rs 70 per kg last week. Capsicum was available at Rs 120 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs 80 per kg, calabash at Rs 70 per kg, pumpkin at Rs 100 per kg.
The survey witnessed the prices of chicken meat remained stable in retail market, as live chicken was being sold at Rs 167 per kg. A dozen of farm eggs were being sold at Rs 100. A mix trend in prices of pulses continued in retail market, the survey noted. Tota rice was available at Rs 60 per kg, which was sold at Rs 70 per kg last week. Dhoti dal was available at Rs 100 per kg, as compared to Rs 120 per kg last week. Per kg price of dal mash decreased to Rs 120, from Rs 140.
Similarly, the survey noticed that white lobiya (bean) was priced at Rs 120 per kg in retail market. Dal green was available at Rs 120 per kg, moong at Rs 120 per kg, dal masoor at Rs 100 per kg. Likewise, price of gram flour (baisen) decreased in retail market as being sold at Rs 120 per kg, as compared to Rs 130 per kg last week. Red bean was available at different rates ranging from Rs 120, Rs 140 to Rs 170 per kg.
The survey witnessed that prices of all brand and quality of cooking oil/ghee remained unchanged as available within range of Rs 120, Rs 160 and Rs 170 and Rs 180. During the visit, it was noticed that butchers were defying the official rates, and selling cow beef at Rs 300, Rs 320 and Rs 340 per kg. Mutton was being sold at Rs 700 and Rs 750 per kg.
However, soaring prices of fruits kept them out of the reach of common man. According to survey, apple was being sold at Rs 130 and Rs 150 per kg, big-size Orange at Rs 150 per dozen, while small-size orange at Rs 100 and Rs 80 per dozen, fruiter at Rs 80 per dozen, guava at Rs 80 per kg, banana at Rs 50 and Rs 80 per dozen.
The survey noticed that milk sellers received Rs 100 to Rs 120 for per litre of milk against the officially fixed price of Rs 80 per litre. Yogurt was available at Rs 100 and Rs 110 per kg. Good quality black tea was available at Rs 350 per kg and Rs 400 per kg, green tea at Rs 250 per kg, one-kg pack of milk powder at Rs 700.
