The government and people of Pakistan will continue to provide their political, moral, and diplomatic support to the people of occupied Kashmir for unprecedented struggle of self-determination, stated Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan here on Sunday. Addressing a news conference here on Sunday, the minister stated the Solidarity Day will be observed today (Monday) across the country to show solidarity and support to the just struggle of the people of held-Kashmir.
He said that Jammu and Kashmir is a dispute between Pakistan and India and should be resolved according to wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We remind India and world community of its responsibilities to resolve the issue in line with UN and Security Council's resolutions, he added. Barjees Tahir stated that Indian forces have surpassed all the records of atrocities and human rights violations in occupied Kashmir but was unable to suppress the Kashmiris struggle for freedom.
He added that Pakistan wants to resolve the Kashmir issue through composite dialogue process because peace in South Asia is not possible without resolving long outstanding dispute which put the region at a flash point.
Barjees Tahir stated that the Kashmir issue is the oldest unresolved issue on UN agenda and posed a question that if referendum in East Timor and Sudan is possible why plebiscite cannot be held in Kashmir. He urged the UN to implement its resolutions on Kashmir to settle the issue. Pakistan respects all resolutions of UN and the World Council has endorsed the resolutions many times in its sessions since 1947.
He added that the World had promised self-determination to the people of occupied Kashmir seven decades before, however, these promises are yet to be implemented.
The Minister and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will address the joint session of AJK Legislative Assembly and AJK Council in Muzaffarabad today and one minute will be observed at 10:00 am to pay homage to the martyrs of the liberation struggle of held-Kashmir.
