Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq has welcomed the suo moto notice taken by the Chief Justice of Pakistan in regard to the wealth of the Pakistani elite lying in banks abroad and expressed the hope this historic move would help bring the plundered national wealth to the country. Addressing the central parliamentary council of the JI at Mansoora on Thursday, he said that the deadline of a fortnight given by the learned Chief Justice to the national institutions for furnishing the details of the wealth was appreciable. He said that the money recovered thus would be diverted to public welfare projects which had been totally neglected by the corrupt ruling elite.
He further said that the fresh amnesty scheme being announced by the government to launder the black money was another NRO but the nation would not accept that. He said that the JI had been demanding that the wealth of the plunderers of public money should be brought to the country and all those who kept their wealth hidden to evade taxes must be brought to accountability. He said that such amnesty schemes were a great injustice to the people who paid their taxes honestly.
The JI chief demanded that instead of facilitating the corruption mafia, the government should improve the tax recovery system.
JI Chief said that the politicians working on the dictates of the US and international establishment besides those who were afraid of India, were creating problems for the country. He said that the vast majority of the people wanted the Islamic system but the public opinion was never given any weight. He said the artificial leadership ruling the country had placed the country slave of the international financial institutions. They had driven the country away from self reliance and done great harm to the country's image.
He said that the religious forces on the MMA platform would obstruct the path of the liberal and secular forces in the next elections. He said the central point of the JI's policy was to unite the religious forces against the liberals and it was hoped that the MMA would emerge an alternative leadership.
Secretary General, JI, Liaqat Baloch, in his address on the occasion, urged the political leadership to stop criticism of the judiciary as was harmful for the democratic system. He stressed upon the political parties to respect democratic norms and laws. He further said that the masses of the country were fully at the back of the judiciary and they also expected the superior judiciary to end corruption in the lower judiciary and adopt necessary reforms to ensure prompt justice.
