Probe against Lahore Directorate: DGI&I Customs Islamabad asked to cooperate with FIA

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed the Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation (DGI&I), Customs Islamabad to co-operate with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in its corruption inquiry against Lahore Directorate. In a written directives sent to the Director General DGI&I Shoukat Ali, the board has ordered him to provide the requisite information and assistance asked by the FIA as per relevant rules under intimation to the FBR.
According to details, FIA Corporate Crime Circle (CCC) has sent couple of notices under section 94 Cr PC to chief management customs, Islamabad over millions of rupees corruption.
The agency has initiated inquiry over corruption/misappropriation of millions of rupees in the state warehouse located in Lahore where seized goods especially mobile phones were allegedly sold to CSD.
Therefore, the FIA has kept asking the chief management customs, Islamabad to furnish all relevant records before the investigation officers. However, the chief management customs, which is required to submit records pertaining to 1763 mobile phones confiscated by the DI&I, Customs Lahore allegedly sold to CSD and records of similar transaction made in the Directorate during past 10 years, has shown negative response with the rational to have initiated departmental inquiry on the issue.
Moreover, sources in FIA said that FBR in order to protect its officers directed to cooperate with the agency in its inquiry as no relevant department had neither followed such FBR's instructions in past nor they were ever penalized for said defiance.
They said the board had detected immense number of fraud cases against its officials in past but not a single official was terminated and termed the FBR directives deceptive tactics to delay FIA inquiry further.
