Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to the people of Lodhran for giving massive victory to his party's candidate in the bye-election on Monday, saying "the people are making distinction between development and discrimination through the vote".
The comments of the disqualified premier come during a consultative meeting of the party leaders here at Punjab House after his appearance before the accountability court. During the meeting, Nawaz appreciated the party's candidate Iqbal Shah for securing 113,542 votes in Lodhran bye-elections by defeating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Ali Tareen with a big margin. "This is the love the people of Lodhran have shown for us", he said.
Ali Tareen, the son of PTI Jahangir Tareen, contesting his first election on his father's seat, got 85,933 votes. Nawaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to the people of Lodhran and also thanked them for giving the party this victory, saying that he would personally pay a visit to the constituency to convey his gratitude and thanks.
Terming the ongoing cases against him as "victimization in the name of accountability", he said; "they want Nawaz Sharif punished one way or the other. But I am happy the people of Pakistan are with us as seen in the Lodhran bye-polls. The masses themselves are giving verdict through the vote, they have made a distinction between the development and discrimination by giving massive votes to PML-N in [Lodhran] bye-election", he asserted.
