Pakistan Army contingent is being sent to Saudi Arabia on train-and-advise mission and those or troops already there will not be employed outside KSA. This was announced by military media wing through a press release on Thursday after a meeting of Nawaf Saeed Al-Maliki, Ambassador of KSA, with Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at GHQ.
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, including regional security situation, were also discussed. "In continuation of ongoing Pak-KSA bilateral security cooperation, Pakistan Army contingent is being sent to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on training and advise mission," the military said, adding, "these or troops already there will not be employed outside KSA."
It further stated that Pakistan Army maintains bilateral security cooperation with many other GCC / regional countries. The decision appears to have been taken in the wake of increasing attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemeni rebels, Houthis, on its bordering areas with the civil war-torn Arab country. Pakistan has repeatedly condemned these attacks including the ballistic missiles fired on the Saudi territory by the Yemeni rebels. "The government reiterates its full support and solidarity with the leadership, the government and people of Saudi Arabia against any threats to its territorial integrity and threats against Harmain Sharifain", said a foreign office statement on January 05, 2018 after a ballistic missile attack on Saudi's Najran province by the Houthis. In April 2015, the joint sitting of the Parliament adopted a unanimous resolution, which states that the government of Pakistan "should maintain neutrality in the conflict so as to be able to play a proactive diplomatic role to end the crisis."
