Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif said on Sunday that politicians who rely on 'umpire's finger' will have no ballot papers in their favour in the July general elections. In his address at a public meeting here, Nawaz said, those who believe that their fate hinges on "umpire's finger" would fail in the elections, this year.
Without mentioning the names of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, and Pakistan People's Party (PPP), he suggested they should tell the people how many development projects their governments had initiated in the provinces where they ruled.
Nawaz claimed that he had not committed corruption of even 10 rupees. He said that the people accorded a memorable welcome to a disqualified premier. He complained that the people had elected him to serve as the Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan for a period of five years but he was ousted before tenure's completion. He said, in 1990, he had been ousted two years into the tenure and in 1997, after a period of three years. He claimed credit to elevating Pakistan to the status of a nuclear power during his tenure as Prime Minister in 1997-99. "I was incarcerated and sent into exile for such 'crimes'," he taunted.
He said that ruling PML-N has secured historic investment amounting to dollars 56 billion in Pakistan. He further said nation would avenge the troubles they were subjected to during the past 70 years, through their vote in the upcoming elections. Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz said whoever attempted for 'minus-Nawaz,' would invariably face failure.
She said time would come when a 'real and legal' Joint Investigation Team (JIT) would be formed. She said Nawaz was ousted last year by those who damaged the sanctity of the vote earlier.
