The Punjab Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution against the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for its actions terming them contrary to human rights and human dignity. The out-of-turn resolution was presented by Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. The resolution was passed in the absence of opposition. The resolution also demanded that this matter should be discussed in the National Assembly. The resolution calls for ending the 'plea-bargain' clause in the NAB Ordinance. The clause allows accused persons to accept their guilt and return some of the looted wealth in exchange for a light punishment.
Earlier, the opposition parties in the provincial assembly protested against the resolution and tore into pieces copies of the resolution. "The NAB not only arrested and harassed a senior government official but also assassinated his character," the resolution said.
Recently, the NAB detained a senior provincial bureaucrat and former head of the Lahore Development Authority Ahad Khan Cheema for his alleged involvement in the Ashiana Housing Scheme case. The House passed The Punjab Charities Bill 2018. The Punjab Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill 2018 and The Registration (Punjab Amendment) Bill 2018 were introduced in the assembly while annual activity reports of the Parks and Horticulture Authority Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Lahore, Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi for the Year 2015-16 were laid in the House.
The questions relating to agriculture and food were answered by Agriculture Minister Naeem Khan Bhaba and the parliamentary secretary food. The session started 50 minutes late under the chair of Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal.
