Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) chairman Engr Jawed Salim Qureshi, leading a delegation visited the Usman Institute of Technology (UIT), a premium technology institute where he highlighted the PEC's efforts, and overall progress and scope of engineering education in the country during an interactive discussion session with students.
The delegation comprised Engr Farhan Khan - member PEC governing body, Engr Najamuddin Shiekh - member PEC governing body, Engr Adil Askari - member PEC chairman task force, Engr Idrees Khan - member PEC governing body, and other prominent academics and administrators.
Qureshi highlighted some recent milestones achieved by PEC. He pointed to Pakistan's attainment of full signatory status of the Washington Accord, a highly rigorous global standard on engineering education and accreditation system which grants substantial equivalence of degrees to facilitate global mobility and international recognition to equate the same at par with top leading signatory countries of the world.
The PEC chairman also discussed prime minister's recent and historic approval of 20,000 paid internships for engineers as part of the 'PM Youth Training Internship 2018 Scheme.' In lieu of trainings for engineers, the previous support of Rs 12,000 has now been raised to Rs 15,000.
"We at PEC have actively and dedicatedly worked to get the Pakistani engineering education an international recognition...," said Engr Jawed Salim Qureshi. "After the acceptance of Washington Accord, Pakistani engineers will be recognized worldwide and will not have to appear in any additional test to prove their engineering qualifications...," he added. Talking on the occasion, UIT director Dr Zahir A Syed said, "It's an honour and privilege for us to host PEC chairman and other distinguished guests at UIT."
