Like other parts of the country, the Pakistan Day-2018 was celebrated in Karachi on Friday with national zest and fervour. The metropolis - being the provincial capital city of Sindh, welcomed the day with 21-gun salute. Special prayers were offered in mosques for the progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country.
Main function of the day was the change of guard ceremony at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah along with his cabinet members Manzoor Wassan, Sohail Anwar Siyal and Mumtaz Jakhrani and Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar visited the Mazar-e-Quaid to pay homage on the occasion of Pakistan Day. They laid floral wreaths and offered fateha at his grave.
As the day was declared a public holiday, citizens thronged the Quaid's mausoleum to offer fateha and pay respect and express their adoration for their homeland.
The national flag was hoisted at all major government buildings. Various political parties held rallies to mark the day. Pakistan Day is celebrated to commemorate the Lahore Resolution that was adopted on March 23, 1940, when the All-India Muslim League demanded a separate nation for the Muslims of the British-held India.
Talking to the media, the Governor said Karachi is now a peaceful city for which security forces have worked continuously and rigorously. The Chief Minister urged that we all must work hard to make the country strong and ensure democratic process to continue. He emphasised that nation must celebrate this day with renewed commitment to work hard for the progress and stability of the country.
