Tehreek-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA) have decided to launch a mega anti-government movement from April 2 if it fails to implement the agreement signed at the end of the 22-day long Faizabad sit-in. Pir Ejaz Ahamd, central spokesman TLYAR while talking to Business Recorder, said that the deadline to implement the 6-point agreement signed between the government and TLYAR leadership on November 27, 2017, will end on Sunday (April 1).
He said that the activists of TLYAR will gather at Data Darbar Lahore on April 2 from across the country and will start massive anti-government movement if their demands were not met by April 1. "Despite passage of four months, the government has not implemented the agreement, leaving TLYR with no option but to launch a movement to pressure the government to implement the deal in letter and spirit", he said.
From the government side, the agreement was signed by Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Federal Interior Secretary Arshad Mirza while Allama Khadim Hussain Rizvi, Pir Afzal Qadri and Muhammad Waheed Noor had signed the agreement on behalf of the religious parties.
Following the agreement, former law minister Zahid Hamid resigned as per the first demand of TLYAR. Demands that remain unmet are as follows: (i) committee report headed by Leader of the House in Senate Raja Zafarul Haq be made public within 30 days and action taken against those responsible for the earlier controversial amendment in Kahtam e Nabuwat Bill as per law of the land; (ii) an Inquiry Board was to be constituted in consultation with TLYAR to probe November 25, 2017 action of the government against the protestors. The Board was also tasked to investigate, fix responsibility and propose legal action against those responsible for the operation; (iii) damage to public and private property from November 6, 2017 till the end of the dharna was to be calculated and borne by the federal government; (iv) agreement relating to Punjab government be implemented in letter and spirit.
The TLYAR spokesman said that despite the agreement, the government has implemented only one clause - the removal of Zahid Hamid as law minister- which is not acceptable. The agreement signed between government and TLYAR included the statement that it was possible after the efforts of the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gen Qamar Bajwa and his special team.
At a recent press conference, DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor categorically stated that the military was neither a guarantor of the Faizbabad sit-in nor would be in future. He said that the military played an informal role in ending the sit-in.
