Around 70 per cent of kidney patients (adult and children) have infected with stone diseases, which mainly cause due to contaminated water and malnutrition. This was stated by Dr Sherjeel Saulat, Director Surgery, Tabba Kidney Institute (TKI) during the media briefing on a two-day workshop on International Master Class in Laparoscopic urology "Nuts & Bolts" along with Dr Huixia Zhou Bayi Children's Hospital, China, Dr Bogdan Petrut of Institute of Oncology Romania, Dr Kamran Ahmed and Dr Azhar Khan of Kings College London at TKI here on Saturday.
He said that although TKI had done 100 laparoscopic surgeries during last 6 to 8 months, this workshop, which was attending laparoscopic surgeons and trainers from Europe and China, was aimed at educating Pakistani urologists about this advance technology.
He said that this surgery, which costs Rs 15k to 20k per patient, took 1.5 or 2 hours; adding that TKI was also planning to sign MoU with the institutes of these foreign surgeons to send local urologists to their respective countries for training.
Needless to mention, this event is providing tremendous learning opportunities for young urologists. The master class consists of multiple learning platforms including, setting up laparoscopic operating room, hands-on training on biochemical tissue in dry lab setting, hands-on simulation for common procedures, lectures by speakers. The master class is also endorsed by European Association of Urology (EAU) and Department of Medical Education of CPSP also awarded CME hours. Furthermore, EAU will conduct a written examination of the interested participants at the end of this master class. The master class also endorsed by Pakistan Association of Urological Surgeons (PAUS), Karachi Chapter.
First time in Pakistan live surgeries in 3D is being displayed simultaneously from O.T to seminar hall. Dry-Lab supervised training courses on biochemical tissue are running in parallel sessions throughout two days. Thirty two urologists are attending this master class from all over the country.
