The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday adopted two private resolutions against the prolonged electricity load shedding in Karachi unanimously during a delay-marred sitting. The assembly remained inactive for two hours because of the legislators' late arrival in the house.
The separate resolutions, which main opposition party - MQM's women lawmaker, Naila Latif and PTI's parliamentary leader, Khurrum Sher Zaman Khan tabled against the prolonged and unscheduled power cuts in Karachi.
The resolutions echoed the house with support from the treasury benches. "The Sindh Government should let the house know what negotiations on power outages it concluded with the K-Electric," Khurrum Sher Zaman asked the treasury. "We will again hold a sit-in against the K-Electric if it did not change attitude," ruling PPP's legislator, Javed Nagori also questioned why the Supreme Court is not taking notice of load shedding in Karachi?
The house also adopted a resolution moved by ruling PPP's Syed Sardar Shah against a motion adopted by the Balochistan Assembly claiming its bordering area of Sindh as its integral part. The mover asked the Balochistan legislators to set their record right regarding 'Kuty Ki Qabar Ka Illaga" - known as a locality of dog's graveyard.
He claimed the Sindh government has its historic records on the disputed land. Other lawmakers like Sindh Senior Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Nisar Khuhro said the Election Commission of Pakistan has also shown the disputed area as part of his province. Naheed Begum of MQM tabled a resolution on a wage board for working journalists.
Sindh Information Minister, Syed Nasir Hussain also supported, saying there is a plan underway for making laws to ensure job protection of the journalists. Nisar Khuhro also told the house that Sindh government is working on setting up 58 small dams to ensure preserve rainwater for human and agriculture purposes. He said the construction of some 38 dams was completed while 19 are underway.
Six private bills were tabled during the sitting mainly related to the education institutions. However, Deputy Speaker, Shehla Raza ruled that bills should be sent to the concerned committees of the assembly, which will bring back them to the house after due deliberations. The house was adjourned till Thursday morning.
