Benazir Housing Scheme scamp: SHC reserves judgment on bail plea of three accused
Sindh High Court on Wednesday reserved the judgment on bail application of three accused, who have been charged for causing Rs220 million loss to national exchequer in Benazir Housing Scheme. Three accused - Manzar Abbas, Abdul Mohiddin and Agha Ishrat - filed bail application before the court. The SHC also directed NAB to submit with the court progress report in this case. NAB Prosecutor argued that Director of housing scheme Manzar Abbas caused millions of rupees loss to national exchequer and didn't allot the houses to the people, who have deposited the required amounts.
NAB Prosecutor further told the court that NAB recorded the statements of affectees by surveying five districts of the province. He said that against 1400 houses, only five hundreds houses were built and embezzlement of funds was even done while construction of these houses. Meanwhile, Anti-Corruption Department submitted the reply to Sindh High Court in case pertaining to harassment of former Sindh Chief Minister Sindh Arbab Ghulam Rahim. The SHC took up the case when Arbab complained about Anti-Corruption Department harassing him.
Anti-Corruption Department submitted before the court that inquiry against Arbab Rahim has been closed down due to non-availability of evidence and assured that former chief minister would not be harassed as no other inquiry is being going on against him. Upon the assurance of Anti-Corruption Department, the SHC disposed of the case. Meanwhile, former Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon again filed a bail application in Sindh High Court on medical grounds. In application submitted through his counsel, Sharjeel Memon pleaded that he is seriously ill and even medical board has pointed out this serious illness.
Sharjeel Memon's counsel submitted the plea before the court that bail application of his client should be accepted on medical ground. Sharjeel Memon approached the court second time after his earlier bail application was rejected by Sindh High Court. Sharjeel Memon along with others is accused of corruption worth billions of rupees in the award of advertisements of Sindh government.
