Pakistan conducted a successful test of an enhanced range version of the indigenously developed Babur cruise missile on Saturday. "Babur Weapon System-1 (B) incorporates advanced aerodynamics and avionics that can strike targets both at land and sea with high accuracy at a range of 700 kilometres," said Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR), media wing of Pakistan Army.
It is a low-flying terrain hugging missile, which also carries certain stealth features and is capable of carrying various types of warheads. It is equipped with state-of-the-art navigational technologies of Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) and all time Digital Scene Matching and Area Co-relation (DSMAC), which enable it to engage various types of targets with pinpoint accuracy even in the absence of GPS navigation, thus making it an important force multiplier for Pakistan's strategic deterrence.
Director General Strategic Plans Division, Chairman NESCOM, senior officers from Strategic Plans Division, strategic forces, scientists and engineers of strategic organizations witnessed the launch. Chairman JCSC General Zubair Mahmood Hayat and Services Chiefs have congratulated the scientists and engineers of NESCOM and NDC.
President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi have also conveyed their appreciations to scientists and engineers on successful conduct of the missile test.
Earlier on March 29 last, the country conducted successful test fire of submarine launched cruise missile "Babur" having a range of 450 kilometers. The missile was fired from an underwater dynamic platform, which successfully engaged its target with precise accuracy; meeting all the flight parameters.
Submarine Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM) Babur is capable of delivering various types of payloads and incorporates state-of-the-art technologies including underwater controlled propulsion, advanced guidance and navigation features.
