Lawsuit accuses Apple of lying about screen size, resolution of iPhones X series

A lawsuit has recently been filed against Apple accusing smartphone manufacturer of lying about the screen sizes of its iPhone X series.

Two plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against the Cupertino tech giant, accusing it of falsely advertising the screen sizes and pixel counts of the displays in its iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max devices. The plaintiffs are now also seeking class action status, reported CNET.

The lawsuit asserts that Apple was dishonest about the screen sizes by counting the non-screen areas as well such as the notch design and the corners. Thus, the iPhones aren’t actually are ‘all-screen’ phones as they are being marketed as.

For instance, the iPhone X’s screen size is supposed to be 5.8-inches as it has been marketed, however, as per the plaintiffs’ measurement, the size is ‘only about 5.6875 inches’.

Also, the suit alleged that the iPhone X series have lower screen resolution than advertised. Where, the iPhone X is supposed to have a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels, but the phone doesn’t really contain true pixels that have red, green and blue subpixels in each pixel. Instead, as per the complaint, the iPhone X allegedly only has two subpixels per pixel; less than advertised. The lawsuit claimed that the iPhone 8 Plus has a higher-quality screen than the iPhone X.

As per Digital Trends, the lawsuit states that the screen size is actually a primary factor for users when deciding which phone to go for. “One of the most important factors in the value and price of a phone is its screen quality, the most important factor of which is screen resolution. For this reason, Defendant’s phones, including the Products, are advertised and marketed based on their screen resolution.”
