The Lahore High Court on Friday directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to decide the applications for visa extension and nationality of an Indian woman Kiran Bala within three days who married to a Pakistani man. Kiran Bala, now holds Muslim name Amina, arrived Lahore from Delhi on a valid visa to attend religious rituals at Gurudwara Punja Sahib and contracted marriage with Muhammad Azam with whom she had developed friendship through Facebook.
Advocate Ijaz Ahmad Khan representing Amina stated that the petitioner moved two separate applications to the ministry for nationality and extension in her visa. He said the petitioner was ready for due verification to acquire the citizenship of Pakistan, her husband's country.
The counsel argued that Article 15 of Universal Declaration Human Rights empowered everyone to a nationality and also to change nationality. He said the petitioner now sought nationality of her husband's country. The court disposing of the petition directed the ministry to decide applications of the petitioner within three days.
