The National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development on Friday took serious notice of attorney general of Pakistan's absence from its meeting without any prior intimation. The committee meeting was held here in the Parliament House in the chair of MNA Mir Aamir Ali Khan Magsi.
The committee brought under consideration the issue of Grand Hyatt Hotel located at the Constitution Avenue, compensation to the Overseas Pakistanis who have invested in the project and update of the inquiry made by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
An FIA representative informed the committee members that they have thoroughly investigated the project and found no corruption in it. He said the project is fair and the FIA would keep monitoring it.
The committee urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan and Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to safeguard the interests of the innocent overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development.
The committee also considered the issue of pending cases of overseas Pakistanis relating to death claims in the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF). The OPF managing director assured the committee that all pending cases would be entertained accordingly.
The committee considered the consular protection policy formulated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in pursuance of the order of the Lahore High Court dated 14-03-2017. The committee recommended that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs may submit protection policy and complete details of Pakistanis imprisoned in different countries along with the assistance provided to them.
