Karachi law & order will be further improved in the coming months and the present operation will not only continue but will also have sustainability. This was stated by Major General Muhammed Saeed, Director General, Pakistan Rangers Sindh. The DG Rangers was addressing as chief guest in the Networking Session "Make in Bin Qasim" organized by Bin Qasim Association of Trade & Industry, BQATI on April 19 at a local hotel.
The DG Rangers while expressing his satisfaction over the improved law and order situation in Karachi reiterated that peaceful Karachi was the pre-requisite for the industrial investment in this Metropolitan City. He assured the audience that the operation being carried out was only against criminals and terrorists and same would continue in full force.
He appreciated the efforts of the private sector that in spite of various obstacles the industrial activity was going on. He believed that peaceful Karachi would lead to a peaceful Pakistan and in that respect all efforts would be carried out.
The networking session was also attended by Siraj Kassim Teli, leader of BMG group; Asad Rafi Chandna, Chairman Port Qasim; S M Muneer, leader of Business Community; Bashir Janmohammed, Chairman Westbury Group of Companies, and other distinguish guest from business community and the representatives from the industries located in Bin Qasim Industrial Zone.
Mian Muhammad Ahmed, Patron-In-Chief, BQATI while welcoming the guests explained the role of Bin Qasim Association of Trade & Industry (BQATI) as a facilitator between the industries located in Bin Qasim Industrial Zone (BQIZ) and the stakeholders. He also advocated that BQIZ and more specifically in Port Qasim Industrial Zone (PQIZ) offered tremendous potential for the industrial investment primarily due to the abundant availability of land.
Rasheed Janmohammed, Immediate Past President, BQATI gave a detailed presentation on the strength and potential of BQIZ. In his presentation he acknowledged that in spite of abundant availability of land, there was huge scarcity of utilities which deprived the expansion and the establishment of new Industries. Further, he elaborated that, the role of K-Electric had been very pro-active and receptive.
Rasheed Janmohammed stated that industries were expanding their operations and new industries were being set up. "We are encouraged by the announcement that Federal Government has lifted the ban on new gas connections which would definitely encourage the industrial activities. However, so far, no notification is yet issued though this announcement was made a year ago." Rasheed added that "it is the time of need when SSGC do away with their Sunday closure as this has been a great impediment for operating the industry. Special considerations for the processing units are required as the one day forced shut down is equivalent to three days closure of continuous plants."
Rasheed Janmohammed, while appreciating the proactive approach of PQA in the industrial growth at Port Qasim, has requested the authority to execute the plan of alternate channel which is imperative due to increase in marine traffic particularly LNG vessels. He also requested to have stable Land Policy so as to avoid frequent increase in rentals.
Rasheed also suggested improvement on the road infrastructure on the model of motorway and the concept of Motorway Police should also be introduced.
The Chairman PQA appreciated efforts of BQATI and hoped that such Networking Sessions will not only identify the problematic areas but will also address the same.-PR
