The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday announced that it would start printing of final voters list for the general elections 2018 after data entry and processing of votes. The Commission announced the decision of printing the final electoral rolls after the time for voters' registration and correction as well as transfer of votes expired on Monday evening.
The Commission had prepared preliminary electoral rolls having names of 104 million voters and put them on display at over 14,000 display centers across the country from March 26 to April 30 for inspection by general public. The voters were asked to check their and their family members' votes and other relevant details to point out any discrepancy or correction or to get their votes transferred from one place to another.
The preliminary electoral rolls show the total number of voters are 104,267,581, including 59,740,095 in Punjab, 22,066,558 in Sindh, 15,075,616 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 4,194,311 in Balochistan, 2,460,804 in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and 730,197 in Islamabad.
The list contains the names of 8.1 million new voters. The data shows 21 percent increase in number of voters since the last general election held in 2013. The names of about 800,000 voters have been removed from the list that was used in the 2013 general election. Meanwhile, the Commission has been conducting daily hearings to dispose of objections filed by voters of different constituencies against the delimitations. Over 1,200 objections were filed and around half of them have been addressed so far.
The officials of Election Commission said that all objections filed against the delimitations of constituencies would be addressed by May 3 and a final notification would be issued on May 5. All polling stations have been linked with the Google Map while the Commission has completed the training of lead trainers.
