The third edition of the newly introduced National Men and Women Road Cycling Championship under the aegis of Pakistan Cycling Federation and with the strong collaboration of the Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling Association will be commencing from May 4-6, 2018 here at Northern Bye-Pass Motorway Exchange.
This was stated by Secretary General Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) Syed Azhar Ali Shah while addressing a press conference here at Media Center of the Qayyum Sports Complex. President KP Cycling Association and international technical official Nisar Ahmad was also present.
He said around 150 male and female cyclists from 10 different teams comprising Pakistan Army, Pakistan Wapda, Sui Southern Gas, newly affiliated department Pakistan Ordinance Factory (POF) Wah, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would take part.
He said the Championship will be carrying two different categories - Elite Classes (to be starting from 17-year and above) and Junior Class (Under-17 cyclists). He said earlier they have a joint venture for both Track and Road but now as directed by the International Cycling Union (UCI) they have separated the Track and Road.
He said the Northern Bypass one way track of 14 kilo meters and to be used for the competition on both ways. He said Pakistan Cycling Association is working hard and that is why now they have 7 qualified Level-1 coaches who got qualification from World Korea Cycling Centre (WKCC).
He said according to rules of UCI and Asian Cycling Union (ACU) each of the players, officials, and office-bearers have been issued UCI license in order to discourage the black sheep working against the promotion of cycling in Pakistan.
The cyclists from all across the country would arrive on May 3, 2018. The opening ceremony would peddle off on May 4, 2018 at 7.00 am Director General Sports Junaid Khan will grace the occasion as chief guest at the opening ceremony.
