The Karachi Port handled 170,854 tonnes of cargo comprising 117,810 tonnes of import cargo and 53,044 tonnes of export cargo including 9,203 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 117,810 tonnes comprised of 65,087 tonnes of containerised cargo; 8,717 tonnes of bulk cargo; 1,695 tonnes of soyabean meal; 7,030 tonnes of DAP and 35,281 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 53,044 tonnes comprised of 47,944 tonnes of containerised cargo; 209 tonnes of bulk cargo and 4,891 tonnes of wheat. As many as 9,203 containers comprising of 4,337 containers import and 4,866 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,637 of 20's and 1,254 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 96 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,394 of 20's and 432 of 40's loaded containers while 646 of 20's and 981 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were five ships namely Northern Promotion, Piraeus, Kota Kamil, Wan Hai-503 and Kamome Victoria carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were eight vessels viz. Hansa Offenburg, Kota Kamil, Ever Diamond, MSC Ishyka, MT Lahore, Pacific Debbie, TSM Dube and Parandowski carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
A cargo volume of 195,904 tonnes comprising 137,615 tonnes of import cargo and 58,289 tonnes of export cargo including 5,745 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 137,615 tonnes includes 6,165 tonnes of diesel oil; 10,000 tonnes of palm oil; 53,496 tonnes of coal; 714 tonnes of bitumen; 14,572 tonnes of chemical and 52,668 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo of 58,289 tonnes includes 1,802 tonnes of clinker and 56,487 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 5,745 containers comprising of 2,772 containers import and 2,973 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
There was one ship namely CV Maersk Hartford carrying containers sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while three more ships namely CV SM New York, CV APL Charleston and MV Celcius Miami carrying containers and chemical respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of ten vessels viz. CV SM New York, CV APL Charleston, CV Maersk Hartford, MV Durban Queen, MV African Puffin, MV Gao Yu-2, MV Bulk Chile, MV Celcius Miami, MT Milaha Qatar and MT Souther Jaguar were currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, soyabean seeds, bitumen, coal, chemical and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as fourteen ships namely CV Teno, MV MG Hammand, MV Thassos, MV Avacon, MV Maritime Setoshio, MV Johanna Oldedorff, MV Chayanee Naree, MT Deebal, MT Omera Queen, MT Iblea, MT Euro Strength, MT FPMCP Eagle, MT Glorious and MT Kamome Victoria carrying containers, soyabean, coal, LNG, furnace oil and diesel oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
There were three vessels viz. CV Teno, MV MG Hammand and MT Deebal carrying containers, soyabean and LNG expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Grain & Fertilizer Terminal and Engro Elengy Terminal respectively on Thursday. There were four ships namely CV Virgo, CV Hansa Africa, CV APL Hovic and CV CMA CGM Verginia carrying containers respectively due to arrive on Thursday.
