Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar on Friday directed the managements of Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) hospitals to stay alert to ensure proper treatment to the patients hit by heat-wave. He issued these directives following the Met department's heat-wave forecast, announcing that all KMC-run hospitals would remain open round the clock.
"Doctors and paramedical staff must ensure their presence with necessary medicines in their respective wards. Negligence will not be tolerated," the Mayor warned, presiding over a meeting with the officials of Department of Health and Medical Services and Rescue 1122 ambulance service at his office.
Wasim said the Rescue 1122 officials would remain present outside the hospitals 24/7 as the holidays of ambulance service staff have been suspended due to possible threat of heat-wave in the metropolis.
"The ambulance staff must submit report regarding treatments of heat-wave patients with the senior director medical services, on a daily basis," he said, asking the utility service providers such as Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KW&SB), K-Electric and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to ensure smooth supply of water, electricity and gas to Karachiites throughout the holy month of Ramadan. Wasim also asked citizens to avoid leaving their houses unnecessarily in the Ramadan due to sweltering weather.
