Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Friday that credit of merging FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa goes to former Prime Minister and supreme leader of the PML-N Nawaz Sharif who constituted FATA reforms committee. While addressing a public gathering after ground-breaking of six-lane overhead bridge at Imamia Colony Railways Crossing Shahdara on Friday, the premier said the government with the help of opposition parties got a landmark bill passed for merging FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and brought it into the mainstream.
The PM Abbasi said the PML-N believes in politics of decency and hopefully our opponents would also follow the same path in country's politics and give respect to politics and vote. "When the PML-N came into power in 2013, the country's gross domestic product (GDP) was three per cent and now it has reached six per cent," he said. "The network of various development schemes in the entire country was result of vote and continuation of democracy.
"The premier said the PML-N government had done unprecedented development work in the country which had no precedence in the country's history. Uninterrupted power supply was being provided to the industries and load-shedding had become a thing of the past, he added.
The prime minister appreciated the development works carried out by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in the province, saying though three major parties had governments in their provinces yet the pace of progress and development in Punjab was far ahead. Castigating PTI's 100 days plan, he said the PTI during its tenure could not deliver in the KPK in 1500 days.
The PM said the people will again elect PML-N in next elections based on its performance during the last five years. He said Rana Tanveer Hussain was among the oldest parliamentarians of the PML-N who had been associated with the party since 1985 and that he always strived for the welfare of his people. He said by 2019 one would be able to travel from Lahore to Karachi throughout on motorway.
He also highlighted the government's efforts to cope with gas shortage which enabled the country to export 0.6 million tons of fertilizers contrary to the import of one million tons import of the commodity. Spreading over 1.7 kilometer from Shahdara to 4.4 km South of Kala Shah Kaku Interchange, the project consists of railway overhead bridge, approach ramps, service roads and two pedestrian bridges.
Besides facilitating an uninterrupted flow of traffic on GT Road, it will also provide an alternative route to the traffic to be emanated from Shahdara and heading to Lahore. The project would cost Rs 2 billion and would be executed by the National Highway Authority.
Earlier, while addressing the inauguration ceremony of a gas project in Sheikhupura, PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that those defecting from parties can only serve themselves, not the nation. "Those who are not loyal to the party cannot be loyal to the country either," he said, adding: "Those who cannot respect others cannot respect the vote either." He was of the view that those who had leveled [false] accusations and continued to use abusive terms do not represent Pakistan's politics.
