National Highways and Motorway Police will adopt zero tolerance policy against lane violation, overloading of goods, and violations of motorcyclists. It was announced by DIG Central Zone Ahmad Arslan Malik in a meeting with all Sectors and Beat Commanders held at Babu Sabu Office, Lahore. Sector Commander SSP Kamran Adil, SSP Ghulam Jaffar and Sector Commander Nadeem Ashraf were present in the meeting.
DIG Ahmad Arslan Malik directed the officers to take strict legal action against the vehicles involved in lane violation and overloading by imposing heavy fine and impounding the delinquent vehicle. DIG further directed that all Sector Commanders will patrol twice a day to monitor the progress of enforcement. He also directed to take strict action against violations of motorcyclists, Rickshaws and PSVs. He further told that he will himself monitor the performance of each officer on daily basis and no lethargy will be tolerated in execution of his directions. DIG asked the officers to improve visibility of the patrolling vehicles and provide timely help to the distressed road users.
Beat commanders were directed to conduct meetings with transporters to give them strong message about the action plan of motorway police. It was further directed that frequent meetings with NHA officials be carried out to repair road and improve road furniture.
DIG Ahmad Arslan Malik asked officers to perform their duty without fear and ensure the implementation of law. He directed to patrolling officers to ensure firm enforcement of law on motorways and national highways. The DIG also ordered to ensure equal application of law irrespective of one's status. He said lane discipline on national highways be ensured by keeping the heavy and slow moving vehicles in discipline.
He further said patrolling standards on highways & Motorways would be improved as per international standards and no underage and without license driver would be allowed to travel on motorways and at highways.
DIG Ahmad Arslan Malik directed the officers to depute special crime prevention squad keeping in view upcoming Eid when tendency to crime is most likely. The overloading and overcharging by the PSVs should also be checked strictly DIG said.
