A total of 394 graduates were conferred degrees in various disciplines during the 22nd convocation of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology Swabi on Tuesday According to details, of the total number of degrees, including 337 were BS graduates, 53 MS and 4 PhD. He also gave away medals to the students who got top positions in their respective discipline of engineering and Management Sciences. The four PhD scholars who graduated were: Muhammad Majid, Ramsha Ahmad Toor, Abdul Ghafoor and Massab Junaid.
Quaid-i-Azam medal was awarded to Rayyan Zahid and Ghulam Ishaq Khan Medal to Syed Ashhab ur Rahman Iqbal Ahmad. Ghulam Hussain and Muhammad Haris were the two MS graduates who also got gold medals and the BS graduates who received the faculty based gold medals were: Abdul Hussain, Ahmed Sabih, Mohammad Zainullah Khan, Noyan Ahmed Siddiqui, Syed Ashhab-Ur-Rahman Iqbal Ahmed, Syed Saadat Hussain Rizvi, Syed Sibtul Hassan Sherazi and Talal Bin Saad.
Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who was chief guest on the occasion announced Rs 10,000 for each gold medalist and the students who got two gold medals would get Rs 20,000.
Engr Jehangir Bashar, Rector GIK Institute, Engr Shamsul Mulk, president of Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan (SOPREST) and Executive Director, Shakil Durrani, Prof Dr Jameel-Un Nabi , Pro-Rector (Academics), Saleem Saifullah Khan, Ahsan Basir Sheikh, Pro-Rector (Admin and Finance), Deans and Heads of Departments (HoDs), dignitaries, members of Board of Governors, parents of the students and politicians belonging to different political parties were also in attendance on the occasion.
Jhagra while speaking on the occasion said that Pakistan is a developing country and we face innumerable problems which require immediate solutions and the experts and researchers of the country should select topics for research which find out solution of the confronting difficulties.
The governor said that engineering has been the moving force for mankind to harness nature and make discoveries in science and the application of science for advancement of human civilization. The hallmark of great institutions is that they are always active in the search for excellence and advancement of knowledge.
"Mankind's humble beginnings in the Stone Age to the skyscrapers and supersonic aircraft and rockets of the 21st century were made possible by engineering skills," he said. Engr. Jehangir Bashar, Rector of the GIK Institute spoke on the occasion.
