Prominent jurist and former president Supreme court bar association Aitzaz Ahsan has stated that Pakistani courts have been very lenient towards Nawaz Sharif family and giving them undue latitude while hearing their corruption cases as compared to other accused.
Commenting on former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's recent narrative that he was being denied his basic rights and justice rushed is justice crushed; Aitzaz Ahsan pointed out that it had been more two years that his money laundering and ill gotten wealth case was being heard whereas under NAB law it must had been decided in a month's time.
He said the Accountability court is hearing corruption charges against Nawaz Sharif, his three children and his son-in-law. They are simply required to provide money trail for the purchase of Avenfield flats in London worth billions of rupees but so far they have failed to provide a single proof of money trail. The Qatari letter has proved to be fake.
He said never in judicial history an accused was frequently allowed to go abroad to meet and live with his sons who had been absconding from the court despite repeated summons. He said that the accountability court should have questioned Nawaz Sharif with regard to his meetings with his absconding sons.
Aitzaz Ahsan said Nawaz Sharif says his sons are the owner of these flats and he does not know source of their money. Is it not surprising; is it not a blatant lie he questioned. He said Nawaz Sharif is politicizing a simple criminal case. The accountability court allowed unusually Nawaz Sharif's lawyer Kh. Haris to cross examine prosecution witness for about three weeks whereas onus lies on Nawaz to provide the money trail.
With regard to withdrawal of Kh. Haris from the case, Aitzaz said how he could rescue himself from the proceedings of the case when he had taken professional fee for the case. Nawaz Sharif is using delaying tactics and prolonging the hearing beyond 25th July by hook or by crook so that he could lead the election campaign of PML-N and blackmail by malicious propaganda, the prominent lawyer added.
