The appellate tribunal on Saturday issued notices to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and other parties over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan's petition against the verdict of returning officer in NA-95 Mianwali constituency.
Hearing against the rejection of nomination papers was held in the tribunal. The plea maintains that the returning officer (RO) rejected the papers against facts therefore; his verdict should be annulled. The further proceedings of the case will be held on June 25. On Friday, the appellate tribunal issued notices to ECP and RO following Khan's plea challenging the rejection of his nomination papers from Islamabad's NA-53 constituency.
Abdul Wahab Baluch, a candidate of the Justice and Democratic Party (JDP) headed by former chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, has challenged the eligibility of Imran Khan to contest the general election due to the Sita White case. Meanwhile, hearing was also held over the petition of former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi against the rejection of his nomination papers from NA-57.
Abbasi's lawyer Tahir Abbasi appeared before the court and requested time for the preparation of the case. The court approved the request. Meanwhile, hearing against the approval of Maryam Nawaz's nomination papers in PP-173 was held in Lahore High Court (LHC). The petitioner has adopted stance that the RO accepted the papers contrary to the specifics. The appeal was rejected after being termed inadmissible for hearing.
