Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on Sunday agreed that both the parties would go to the Parliament and play an effective role of the opposition. The two parties' delegations met at Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq's residence to discuss the future course of action in the post election scenario as Pakistan Muslim League (N) also claimed that it enjoyed support of the PPP members-elect of the Punjab provincial assembly to form the government.
However, it remains unclear whether the PPP agreed or not to lend its support to the PML-N in the Punjab Assembly. However, the delegations of both the parties, according to the Farhatullah Babar, reviewed the post election situation and PPP suggested to the PML-N not to leave the forum of the parliament.
The PPP delegation led by Syed Khursheed Shah included Farhatullah Babar, Qamar Zaman Qaira and Syed Naveed Qamar while PML-N delegation led by Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq included former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and others. Later, the PPP delegation also met with JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and tried to convince him to reconsider the decision of boycott of oath-taking.
Meanwhile, PML-N and PTI intensified their efforts to win over PML-Q and PPP seven seats in the provincial assembly with the objective to form the government in the Punjab, critical for both the parties. On Saturday, speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq and sources stated that the PML-N sought support of PPP members in the provincial assembly. The PML-Q said to have sent its demands to the PTI for support in Punjab Assembly.
Speaking to media outside the Bani Gala, Naeemul Haq of the PTI said that speculations of making a chief minister from other political party than the PTI have no truth. He said that the Punjab chief minister will be from the PTI. However, neither PTI nor PML-N has majority in the provincial assembly and are heavily dependent on the independent candidates. The PML-N has 128 members-elect in the provincial assembly while the PTI 125. On Sunday, three independent members-elect of the Punjab assembly Raja Saghir from PP-7 Rawalpindi, Saeed-ul-Hassan from PP-46 Narowal and Sheikh Sulman Naeen from PP-217 joined PTI after a meeting with Imran Khan.
