Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday congratulated former cricket star Imran Khan on victory in the country's national elections and invited him to visit Kabul, said Naeemul Haq, a leader from Khan's Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party. The Afghan president is the first head of state to congratulate Khan on his party's victory in July 25 elections.
"I extended an open invitation to Mr Khan and he expressed his wishes to visit Kabul soon," Ghani said in his tweet. "We both agreed to overcome the past and to lay a new foundation for a prosperous political, social and economic future of both countries," Ghani said in a tweet. "They have suffered most in the war on terror, and before that in the Afghan jihad. Peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan," he said.
