The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed three food businesses on Wednesday for producing and selling inferior quality food products and discarded more than 1,450 kilogram unhygienic food. The action was taken against food business operators over substandard operations and non-compliance of instructions issued by the authority despite repeated warnings, said the PFA spokesperson.
According to details, the food safety teams sealed Naeem Kofta in Bhogiwal area. Stinky cooking oil and rusted vessels were being used for manufacturing of meatballs. The PFA also confiscated 4,000 meatballs and raw material during the raid. In another raid, the PFA team closed down a ketchup production unit near Kharak Nala for using chemicals and artificial flavours in preparation of ketchup and mayonnaise. Interestingly, tomatoes and eggs were not being used at all for production of ketchup.
