Keeping in view security threats and standard operating procedures (SOPs) laid down in the Blue Book for security of VVIPs, the security division of capital police and provincial police departments will provide security to newly-elected Prime Minister Imran Khan.
A senior official of police said that the Blue Book is a classified document and it lays down comprehensive security plan for VVIPs during their movements, including for the president and the prime minister.
"Keeping in view law and order situation in the country, no compromise can be made over the security of VVIPs including Prime Minister and President", he said, adding that "it is to ensure security of the position and not of the personality".
He said that police and security agencies would not suggest the Prime Minister moves without a security squad, because of terror threats. However, he said that minor changes in the security may be agreed to with the Prime Minister.
The official said that the total strength of Diplomatic Security Division (DPD), which is responsible for security of VVIPs and VIPs, is 6000. Out of 6000 as many as 3,000 personnel are of Special Protection Guard (SPG) and Close Protection Guard (CPG).
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry recently stated that Imran Khan will take all necessary measures for security after being sworn in as the country's prime minister but his protocol and expenses will be minimized.
