The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has sought comments and objections from general public who are likely to be affected from 427-km long oil pipeline project from Machike to Peshawar. Inter-State Gas Systems Limited (ISGSL) has applied for the grant of license to carry out the regulated activity of construction of new oil pipelines from Machike (Sheikhupura) to Taru Jabba (Peshawar) via Chakpirana (Gujrat) and Rawat in three section i.e. Machike-Chakpirana (approximately 135km), Chakpirana-Rawat (approximately 117km) and Rawat-Taru Jabba (approximately175 km).
The OGRA has given 15 days to general public for submission of comments in case of aany opposition to the project The project will be implemented on build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis for 15 years term through open tenders. The project will be capable of transporting dual oil products, HSD and MS oil, from Machike to Tarujabba via Chakpirana and Sihala depots.
The oil pipeline project was approved by Economic Coordination Committee (ECC). Tariff will be ratified by the OGRA after completing due process. The project will be completed in three sections and envisages environment-friendly and safe movement of fuel.
The project will also provide additional storage of fuel and enable supply to major distribution centres in central and northern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The ECC further directed that all future pipeline projects will require approval of the cabinet.
