Pakistan Council of World Religion-Faith Friends (PCWR-FF) has expressed serious concern over the frequent occurrences regarding blasphemous caricatures and urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to seek a permanent solution to the issue and stop hurting people of different religions.
Speaking at a press conference at joint Peshawar Press Club on Saturday the council members Bishop Humphrey Sarfraz Peter, Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz, Hafiz Abdul Ghafoor, Allama Fakhr-ul-Hassan Qararvi, Haroon Sarbdiyal and Maqsood Ahmed Salfi condemned a anti-Islam Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders for floating the idea of holding competition of blasphemous cartoons.
The Faith Friends welcomed the cancellation of the sacrilegious competition by the Netherlands government following the sentiments of Pakistani nation and said that organizing such profane events could not be described as freedom of expression.
They said this practice which was causing mental torture and create unrest among people of a religion, a nation or even in individuals should never be allowed in any of the country of the world.
"The Faith Friends not only condemns but also demands legal action against such people who for personal ego or cheap popularity are hurting religious sentiments of millions of people across the world and create hatred," the bishop said while reading out a joint communique.
He stressed the need that the United Nations should devise an effective, comprehensive strategy to bring an end to such tumultuous activities once for all and award exemplary punishment to those involved in this type of crimes which could lead to losses of lives, properties, destruction of religious places.
