The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has once again rolled up sleeves against flour mills in order to ensure the implementing of flour fortification program. This was revealed in a meeting with the officials of Food Fortification Programme, held at PFA Headquarter here on Wednesday. PFA Director General Captain Muhammad Usman(R) directed technical wing to make an initial policy on its implementation in collaboration with all departments concerned along with NGOs within two weeks. PFA will take help of scientific penal in the preparation of policy-making regarding action plan of fortification, its effects and problems.
He said that the purpose of this program is to maintain food nutrition, proportionate contents of food and to address high rates of micronutrient deficiencies in Punjab. Fortification program is the efficient source to overcome the nutrient deficiency for which authority is taking all necessary steps by taking on board to all departments, Usman said.
PFA is also taking action against adulteration mafia and food manufacturers who are not abiding by the regulations besides of fortification program. He said that PFA would not spare anyone found guilty of violating its rules and would be dealt with an iron hand.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has lodged an FIR against the owner of a fake beverage factory on account of forgery while carrying out an operation against it here on Wednesday. The raid was conducted upon information provided by the vigilance cell of the authority.
A special team caught red-handed producing fake beverages with the label of renowned carbonated drink companies and discarded 7,000 liters fizzy drinks and more than 3,100 liters raw material during a raid on site. The factory was functional in the uninhabited area near Shahdrah.
