Around 8.8 million tonnes of grain have been exported or prepared for future export so far this season, down from around 9.7 million tonnes at the same point last season, the state service for food safety said on Friday. So far in the 2018/19 season, which runs from July to June, Ukraine has exported 5.2 million tonnes of wheat, 2 million tonnes of barley and 1.4 million tonnes of maize, it said in a statement.
The export of wheat includes 3 million tonnes of milling wheat and around 2 million tonnes of feed wheat. The service said the pace of milling wheat exports was 11 percent higher than a season earlier despite a smaller harvest and a lower share of food wheat in the output. Ukraine plans to harvest about 63.1 million tonnes of grain in the calendar year 2018 up from 61.3 million in 2017. The country exported 39.4 million tonnes of grain in the 2017/18 season and the ministry has said exports could reach 42 million tonnes this season.
Ukraine has already completed the 2018 wheat harvest, threshing around 24.2 million tonnes of the commodity versus 26.1 million tonnes in 2017.
