Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) while supporting the construction of Diamir-Bhasha Dam has endorsed the decision and demanded that work for the dam should be started immediately without any delay. An extra ordinary meeting held on Sunday under the chairmanship of its President Kabool Muhammad Khatian was attended by all senior office bearers of Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, Sanghar, Ghotki, Larkana and Sukkur division.
The SCA observed that Tarbela Dam is 37% came under slit bar and Mangla Dam also 23% under slit bar by looking this reducing capacity of these reservoir we appeal to the federal government that Diamir Basha Dam should be built on war-footing we demand from the Federal government that this project must be completed in four years if it is necessary the fund should acquire from CPEC to complete this project in four years to avoid the drought in the country.
The SCA, however, expressed its concern on the news that the dam does not have sufficient water for the supplies of Rabi crop and urged the government that necessary quantum of water be saved for Rabi crops.
The SCA also expressed concern about the sugarcane situation in the province. October is approaching Sindh government has neither called a meeting to fix the prices of Sugarcane nor they given any date to start crushing of sugarcane. The SCA strongly demanded that sugar cane price for the season of 2018-19 be announced immediately and crushing start from 20th October 2018 without any delay.
