The University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Tuesday arranged female cycling race held in connection with Space Week celebrations in which 28 students of the Laboratory High School participated.
The event was arranged by the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), UAF in collaboration with Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) in front of Sports Ground UAF. The event was inaugurated by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa whereas ORIC Director Dr Zahir Ahmad Zahir, Principal Office Schools Dr Haq Nawaz Bhatti, Dr Abdul Rasheed, Dr Abdul Naveed, Dr Shahzad Basra, Laboratory Girls High School Principal Shehla Hammad, Laboratory Boy High School Saif Ullah Saif, Dr Khurrum Zia and other notables also attended the event.
At the race, Hamna Aslam clinched the first prize while Faiza Noor got the second position whereas Maham Ali stood third. Seven rounds were held at the racing contest whereas four students participated in one go.
Talking to the participants, he said that there is a need to promote healthy activities in the different segments of the society. He added that cycling is not only keeping people healthy but also it is environment friendly and pollution free source of transportation. He urged the teaching faculty to use cycles within the campus so that trickledown effect will come among the students.
He said that the people usage of the cycling or walking had decreased manifold due to usage of vehicles. He added that we have to educate the people about its importance and to bringing the changes in their lives in term of simple and environmental friendly life. Talking about cycling in women, he said that the UAF was running programme to promote the cycling in the female students.
