Denmark would help Punjab in its endeavours to promote healthy life at public level for prevention of diabetes and six healthy rooms at six selected schools of three districts would be established in this regard.
This offer was extended by Ambassador of Denmark Rolf Holmboe in a meeting with Punjab Health Minister on Tuesday. Under the plan, LCD screens and table tennis would be installed in healthy rooms and informative broachers will be provided to students. During the meeting, various issues of health sector were also discussed.
While elaborating health sector reforms in Punjab, Dr Yasmin Rashid said that comprehensive program for professional training of doctors was being launched. "The Punjab government would disburse interest-free loans among jobless doctors for establishment of their own clinic or dental clinic," she said. Particularly doctors would be encouraged to start practice in rural areas, she added.
The Minister further told the ambassador that health card schemes would be expanded to all districts of Punjab and Rs 10 billion has been allocated for the purpose. "Mother and child health is our primary focus and during 'Nutrition Week' millions of women and children were reached," said Yasmin Rashid. Ambassador of Denmark Rolf Holmboe assured support from his government and said that healthy rooms would be set up at six selected schools of Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan. He regretted on growing number of diabetes patients in Pakistan and assured that Denmark would help Punjab for awareness and treatment of diabetes.
