Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday conveyed its concerns to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding alleged pre-poll rigging in the by-election scheduled for Oct 14 (Sunday). A PML-N delegation comprising Senator Sardar Yaqoob Nasir, Senator Chaudhry Tanveer and MNA Marriyum Aurangzeb met with ECP secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Mohammad at his office and apprised him of the party's concerns regarding the by-polls.
Talking to the media after meeting, Marriyum Aurangzeb said they conveyed their strong reservations over the arrest of PML-N president and leader of the opposition in National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif ahead of the by-elections. She said the ECP was informed that the arrest of Shahbaz Sharif will affect the election and party has strong reservation over his arrest.
She said they also shared their concerns on the ECP's conduct in the general election 2018 and urged the ECP that vote counting should be made in the presence of polling agents. She said all the opposition parties had already expressed strong reservations when polling agents were kept away from the counting process on July 25th night.
Senator Chaudhry Tanveer alleged that Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed is running election campaign of his nephew in the constituency and urged the ECP to take notice of the situation. By-elections on 11 vacant National Assembly and 26 provincial assembly seats will be held on Sunday (tomorrow).
