Customs Health Care Society (HCS) has dug as many as 650 water wells to provide potable water to the drought stricken people of Thar Desert, said Dr Asif Mehmood Jah (Sitara-e-Imtiaz) patron in chief of the Customs Health Care Society and Collector Faisalabad Model Customs Collectorate.
In a special meeting here today, he told that solar powered pumps have also been installed to lift pumps from these wells. He was shocked over the pathetic living conditions of the local residents and told that he has taken special measures to facilitate them. "Food packets for 2000 families were distributed during his recent visit to the area while clinics are also been working to provide free medical facilities to the dwellers of Thar who are braving worst and protracted drought conditions. He further told that he is taking special measures to further expand free health facilities in the deeper areas of the desert and in these connection 55 medical camps has been arranged so far and this facility will continue till the drought conditions are over.
Dr. Asif Jah said that service to the humanity is the mainstay of Islamic society and it is in this context that he has devoted himself to serve the deprived and calamity hit segment of the society. He said that it is also a source of spiritual consolation and every affording Muslim must contribute his role to mitigate the sufferings of poor. He told that apart from a major hospital in Lahore many dispensaries have been established across the country. A dispensary in Faisalabad has also been established to provide free medical facility to the employees of the Faisalabad Model Custom Collectorate. He told that it is 29th dispensary managed by Custom Health Care Society while more dispensaries could also be established in other parts of country in according to their specific needs.
Dr. Asif Jah urged upon the people to switch over to simple living and simple food to lead a disease free healthy life. In this connection, he also quoted a book written by him to treat almost all prevalent diseases through vegetables, fruits and food instead of spending huge money on costly medicines.
