Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah on Friday asked the Secretary Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to expedite work for completing water supply schemes of Thar. Presiding over a high level meeting regarding Thar Development Program, the Chief Secretary also sought a report for RO plants working in Thar. The meeting reviewed the Water Master Plan for Thar Coalfield, including Hydro-geological, Water Supply and Waste Water Management Studies.
The meeting was informed by the Secretary Irrigation Jamal Mustafa Syed that 617 RO plants are functional in Thar while 217 plants are to be completed by 15th December 2018; total 834 RO plants would be functioning, in addition to water supply schemes. It may be mentioned that 40 water supply schemes are functional and 31 are in process.
The Chief Secretary advised the Secretaries of Agriculture, Health, Irrigation, Education, Forest and Livestock, P&D to examine the water supply schemes in consultation with the Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam and relevant department of Karachi University and submit report within 10 days.
