Business community is worried about increasing business and financial losses owing to delay in completion of the much anticipated the Bus Rapid transit (BRT) project Peshawar and demanded that the traders affected by the project be exempted from all provincial taxes for next three years. Businesses have almost come to an end in bazaars and shopping markets located alongside the BRT project in the provincial metropolis, Faiz Mohammad, President of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) told a news conference at the chamber house, here on Thursday.
He said that traders are not only victims of the project but it has also increased difficulties for industrialists of Hayatabad Industrial Estate and Small Industrial Units situated at Kohat road Peshawar as well.
"We demand the provincial government to exempt the BRT-affected industrialists and traders from property tax, professional tax and other taxes for next three years," the SCCI chief said. Also, he called for freezing properties tax of the Municipal Corporation and Auqaf for next three years.
Flanked by the SCCI Senior Vice President, Engr Saad Zahid, Vice President Haris Mufti, former presidents and members of executive body, Faiz urged the Chief Minister Mehmood Khan to take the chamber into confidence on this important issue and make immediate announcement of the tax-exemption for the BRT affected industrialists and traders.
