General Secretary Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri has said that all religious parties would start a 'million march' on November 8 from Karachi against the Supreme Court's decision that acquitted a Christian woman in a blasphemy case.
He expressed these views in a news conference along with other religious parties' MNAs in front of the Parliament House on Friday. "We have three demands; the Supreme Court should immediately take back the decision regarding Aasia Bibi case; those judges who gave decision should resign immediately; and the name of Aasia Bibi be put on Exit Control List (ECL)," he said.
He said, "Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have adopted the attitude of hypocrisy on the Supreme Court's decision and they have exposed themselves before the nation. These parties criticise the Supreme Court when it takes decisions against their leaders but now they are supporting it on releasing Aasia in a blasphemy case. The nation does not accept the decision of the Supreme Court."
He said, "We do not accept the apex court's decision. The decision of the Supreme Court is on the partisan basis while the two other courts have taken the decision of death sentence regarding Aasia. The Supreme Court deliberately delayed the case of Aasia for four years. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supported the apex court against justice."
He said, "We want a peaceful protest and the PTI government should not create hurdles in this way." He further said, "Today, we wanted peaceful protest in front of the Supreme Court but the government blocked the roads whereas every citizen has the right to protest."
He said, "If the government does not accept their demands then it would itself be responsible for the situation." He said the 'million march' of all religious and political parties would start from Karachi, saying it can be spread across the country.
MNA Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali of Jamaat-e-Islami said they would protest peacefully across the country against the Supreme Court's decision. After the news conference, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri along with other MNAs and religious leaders marched towards the Supreme Court and staged a sit-in before it for a short time.
