The benchmark Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM) rubber contract, for April delivery, had fallen 1.2 yen, or 0.8 percent, to 158.6 yen per kg by 0052 GMT on Thursday. TOCOM's technically specified rubber (TSR) 20 futures contract for May delivery was down 0.6 percent at 144.2 yen per kg.
Key Shanghai futures ended overnight trading up 50 yuan, or 0.5 percent, at 11,205 yuan ($1,612.23) per tonne. The US dollar was quoted around 113.64 yen, compared with around 113.61 yen on Wednesday afternoon. US oil resumed declines, while Brent crude was yet to trade.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock average was down 0.3 percent. The front-month rubber contract on Singapore's SICOM exchange, for December delivery, settled at 123.70 US cents per kg on Wednesday, up 0.2 cents from the previous session.
