Iqbal asked to pay Rs 1.5 billion to SSGC

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered Iqbal Z. Ahmad to pay Rs 1.5 billion to Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) as admitted liability on his gas processing plant Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited (JJVL). Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar gave eight weeks for the payment when the counsel for Iqbal, sought three months.
The Chief Justice also declined the request of the counsel for Iqbal to allow functioning of the plant and said, "Ask your client to pay the nation's money and we allow you to start the plant," the chief justice said.
The Chief Justice further observed, "We are not going to pass any order against the interest of public". Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar also directed his counsel to sit with the SSGC officials and come up with a proposal to settle disputed liability of Rs 1.8 billion on the gas processing plant.
