Former Indian cricketer and Minister of Indian Punjab Navjot Singh Sidhu has said that Kartarpur will be a peace corridor between the two countries. Religions should never be seen with a political eye, he added.
He arrived in Lahore through Wagah Border on Tuesday to attend a ceremony of opening of Kartarpur corridor.
Sidhu was talking to media at the border where he arrived along with a group of Indian journalists to take part in the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kartarpur Corridor in Narowal, some 120 kms from Lahore and was greeted at the Wagah Border by officials of Pakistan's Punjab province.
He thanked Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has fulfilled its promise by initiating cordial relations.
He added that Indian people are waiting for Pakistan-India cricket matches as well. Praising the initiative on Kartarpur corridor for Sikh pilgrims, Sidhu said that such steps would promote peace and erase "enmity" between India and Pakistan.
He termed it as a corridor of infinite possibilities and peace besides opening up of trade relations. "I feel that this corridor will be a bridge and erase enmity. It will increase people-to-people contact," he added. He said a wait of 73 years is over after opening of the corridor.
Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform the groundbreaking of the corridor on Wednesday (today). The 4-km-long corridor will connect Dera Baba Nanak in India's Gurdaspur district with Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib Narowal in Pakistan. The corridor will provide visa-free access to the Indian Sikh pilgrims to the gurdwara.
