Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira has demanded constitution of a joint investigation team (JIT) to locate money trail of Aleema Khan, sister of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Addressing a press conference at the provincial secretariat of the party on Saturday, he demanded of forming a JIT under the former IG Police Muhammad Tahir to inquire about the assets of Aleema Khan.
"Both the PM and the information minister have been asking about the money trail of PML-N and PPP leadership and now we are justified to ask about the money trail of Aleema Khan," he stressed. He questioned why this matter has not been referred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to assess total amount of her assets as well as the source of her earning. "The government is not looking serious in setting up a JIT on this issue," he said.
He said the government was trying to settle the issue at the level of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) while claiming that Aleema haad availed the amnesty scheme He also criticised the government for issuing notice to Bilawal Bhutto after he criticised the government in his public address at Gilgit-Baltistan. He said the PPP would continue its contact with masses and keep exposing the government.
He said President Arif Alvi has pointed out that democracy would be protected through all possible means but the prime minister criticises opposition for similar statements.
Kaira also spoke on a number of other issues, including late start of crushing season, inflation, increase in cost of farming and devaluation of Pakistani rupee against dollar and criticised the government for its failure to deliver on economic front. Also, he added, that irresponsible statement of the prime minister over a letter from US President Trump is equal to what Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had stated in case of opening of Kartarpur border.
